NSB in Dang
Dang is one of the largest valleys in Asia and has a population of around 141,000. Tulsipur, where NSB operates in Dang, is the second largest city in the district and its transportation hub. Dang Hosiery Tatha Garment produces school uniforms and tracksuits to cater to the 600 schools and over 155,000 students in Dang district, as well as nearby districts.
Bageshwori Agriculture Farm
Bageshwori Agriculture Farm is a multipurpose farm based in Kotmaula. The farm produces saplings of orange, lemon, pomegranate, lime and ginger saplings. Though Kotmaula is recognized for producing oranges and ginger, the entrepreneur decided to plant lemon, pomegranate and lime trees to meet the growing demand for citrus fruits in Nepal. The entrepreneur aims to encourage local youth and the community at large to start more multipurpose farms and improve socio-economic standards of farmers. They have already sold over NRs 400,000 of saplings to farmers and farm cooperatives.
Dang Hosiery Tatha Garment
Dang Hosiery and Garment, located in Tulsipur, is creating employment for women from economically deprived family and community. Project is focussed to uplift their livelihoods through employment, while also providing uniforms to school children in rural areas at an affordable cost. The project primarily employees’ female tailors — and has delivered school more than 1,600 uniforms and dresses to schools in the region so far. This is a great example of impact startup to bring an economic transformation in rural area through Social business concept.
NSB in Daheldhura
Though a newly formed city, Tikapur (Kailali District) doesn’t have proper waste management facilities. Most of the waste is dumped in public areas — polluting the environment and harming land fertility. And while the city is bustling with new businesses that seemingly pop up daily, more and more waste is being generated, especially single-use plastic — leading the local government to plan on banning plastic bags. However, without any alternative solution, the ban never came into effect, which is why NSB in Kailali aims to tackle single-use plastic by replacing them with environmentally friendly options.
Mahalaxmi Jhola Udhyog
Plastic pollution are toxic and it is hazardous to our environment and our health. Excess use of plastic is a big source of pollution all across our nation. Tikapur is slowly turning itself into the city with rapid urbanization in progress however lack of urbanization management has also created a huge waste management problem. Most of the waste including plastics are dumped in landfills in public area which is affecting the fertility of the land. With the city hustling with more businesses more and more waste is being piled up in the landfill. Although the local government had planned to ban plastic bags in the city, because there was no alternative for plastic bags such objectives are not becoming successful.
In partnership with Nepal Social Business, The eco-friendly reusable bag company, Mahalaxmi Jhola Udhyog was established in Tikapur-9 in the quest in producing such environment friendly bags. This initiative will help mitigate the use of plastic bags and reduce the wastage collection at landfills.
After production and availability of such bags local grocery vendors, clinics, stationery shops, schools, and regular housewives have started purchasing bags from Mahalaxmi. In 2018, Mahalaxmi Bags partnered with Sarangi Social Enterprises to produce bags to sell in Australia promoting Mithila art in such bags. The enterprise has sold more than 2,800 environmentally-conscious bags to date. Mahalaxmi Jhola Udhyog’s reusable bags are made with materials like Flax, cotton, Ramie, etc. This venture is striving to promote environmental protection and awareness in the region.
