Chaudhary Foundation to begin using UNOPS monitoring and evaluation application, FieldSight, for The Model Village Project. - Chaudhary Foundation
Giranchaur, Sindhupalchowk (February 19, 2017) — Chaudhary Foundation officially launched its monitoring and evaluation (M&E) program for The Model Village Project with FieldSight by United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
FieldSight is a mobile M&E service provider and technical advisor that delivers “project monitoring and infrastructure quality assurance across the humanitarian and development sector through actionable data and interfaces that help partners deliver higher-quality lower-risk projects,” according to Nikita Rajbhandari, the FieldSight product manager.
To date, Rajbhandari said the platform now monitors more than 60,000 houses, WASH sites, schools, police stations and other infrastructure, including The Model Village.
The Model Village Project began one year after the 2015 earthquake decimated Nepal, including the homes of Giranchaur’s 350 residents. The foundation will develop the village to meet the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and will be one of the first villages to follow this model. Chaudhary Foundation will implement at least 10 SDGs projects — including rebuilding 70 houses for the villagers, who still live in transitional shelters, and provide education programs, a community center and a water filtration system.
Assessments and M&E are crucial for projects like The Model Village because it helps pinpoint the needs of beneficiaries at the beginning of a project and as it progresses, as well as measure impact and identify gaps, said Nicolas Klapmeyer, an international development consultant working alongside the Chaudhary Foundation.
Klapmeyer said it would be nearly impossible to have a successful project without this kind of data.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to help implement such a novel and versatile data collection tool and hope to use it across many projects in the future,” he said. “Applications like UNOPS’ FieldSight are going to change how baseline assessments and monitoring and evaluation are done in the future, especially in rural hard to reach areas like the Model Village.”
